Dr Ruby Chau has secured funding from the British Academy for the project: Nurturing Social Justice Network of Academics: A Reflexive Writing Training in South Asia for Members from Excluded Communities
Exclusion is systematic and structural in hierarchical South Asian societies. The lack of training in academic writing and opportunities in publishing has confined academic entry and career advancement. The proposed project targets early-career researchers from excluded communities from Bangladesh, Bhutan and Nepal. It aims 1) to equip participants with skills of academic writing for publishing internationally; 2) to establish and sustain an academic network for academic writers from different social science disciplines on the theme of social justice; 3) to nurture future academic leadership in the South Asian region.
The two-year project will offer a reflexive training programme which entails 1) online mentoring for academic writing from a team of international scholars and journal editors; 2) a four-day workshop in Kathmandu, Nepal with reflexive training on academic writing, publishing and grant application; and 3) continual support after the workshop for participants to submit their work to international journals for publication.
