Informing funding decisions for chronic wound care

Chronic wounds are seen within acute and community settings and require effective, integrated services to make sure patients get the best treatment.

For more than 30 years, Professor Christine Moffatt of the Skin Integrity Research Centre has led research to develop and evaluate models of care delivery. Recently, she led an Innovate UK funded project to examine the current prevalence, impact and cost of care in large populations within Nottingham.

The project, in partnership with Nottingham University Business School, explores the complex interaction of enablers and barriers among stakeholders. Its findings will give clinical commissioning groups the robust evidence on which to base future funding decisions, ensuring patients receive optimum care.

Future research with Professor Isabelle Quere using the same methodology will explore the delivery of wound-healing services in Montpellier, France.
