Re-writing the research on the treatment of infection

Description
A major breakthrough in the search for alternatives to antibiotics and the treatment of infection could provide microbiologists with a whole new insight into the way germs co-exist with or attack humans. The discovery led by a team in Schools of Life Sciences and Chemistry at The University of Nottingham has revealed that bacteria are 'hijacking' the human body's own immune defences to adapt their life style inside our body and survive our immune response or build up their own attack.

Professor Awarded Aston Medal

Research published in the leading journal Nature Communications has reported the first examples of four-membered carbon-based rings bonded to uranium. Cyclobutadienyl rings are a fundamentally important type of aromatic system which until now have predominantly been utilised in organometallic transition metal chemistry.

Lord Dearing award for Excellence in Teaching and Learning

Description
Dr Rossana Wright has been awarded the 2013 Lord Dearing Award for excellence in teaching and learning and received her award at the School of Chemistry's Graduation Ceremony on the 15th July 2013.
