Use LIFT
SEDU and the web team have designed a full-day course on Web
Site Accessibility where you can practice using LIFT and editing
pages to make them more accessible. You can use the materials designed
for this course on your own, if you wish:
- Using LIFT for Dreamweaver (MS
Word 402kB).
A guide to running LIFT on a set of example web pages, interpreting
the results and making the necessary amendments.
- Example web sites:
- A bad
site example (making common errors and including bad code
that Dreamweaver makes for your site).
- A better
site example (after using LIFT to identify problems and
after making changes to improve accessibility).
- IS4004:
Accessibility and the Web (pdf 446kB).
A summary of the most common techniques that you will need to
use to make your site more accessible. The techniques are arranged
in the same order as the "Using LIFT for Dreamweaver"
exercises to make it easier for you to use the two documents together.
-
LIFT can:
- find out-of-date (deprecated) tags that you shouldn't
be using (e.g. <font> tags);
- identify inaccessible code (e.g. images without alternative
text);
- suggest manual checks that you need to make (e.g. colour
contrast levels).
|
LIFT can't:
- fix everything for you - often you may need to redesign
your site or make an informed decision about how best to
achieve accessibility;
- measure usability.
