Planning your web site

directions

"who might visit your web site, and why?"

Planning is the first, and in some ways the most important, step of web publishing. You need to be aware of what's happening on the web, particularly in the area where you will be publishing. Make sure that you use the web regularly yourself so that you can position your site in relation to collaborators' or competitors' sites.

If you want a web site that will be useful to your intended audience (i.e. a user-led web site) you need to spend some time thinking about who are your potential visitors and finding out the reasons they might have for visiting.

You will also need to consider setting some objectives for the site that will let you measure the site's success and what quality standards you need to meet.
