Usability Test - notes for the User

Facilitator notes
Observer notes
User notes

Your role:
The faciliatator has a number of tasks for you to complete that involve finding information on the University of Manchester web site. The aim is to test how easy the web site is to use, NOT to test your skill in getting around web sites. Please feel comfortable to take your time when you make your choices, and to think aloud and communicate with the other team members.

Guidelines:
Try to think aloud whilst you're looking at each page and deciding what to click on. The observer needs to be able to keep a record of how you respond to the pages, what you think about when looking at the page, and how you decide where to go next.
Please don't hurry, this is not a test of your skill, and the other team members will need time to make notes.

Getting started:

  1. Log in to the computer using your usual (Novell) username
(if you have any trouble, try putting a full stop in front of your username - don't know why, but it works sometimes)
  2. In the Novell Applications Window, find and open the Accessing the Internet folder, and open a web browser (Netscape or Internet Explorer, whichever you prefer)
  3. Go to the University of Manchester's home page (http://www.man.ac.uk/)
  4. Wait for your facilitator to give you the first task.

Remember - it's the web site that's being tested, not you!
