This particular event was part of the e-learning
seminar series. Web co-ordinators were invited given the particularly
web oriented topic of the session.
Dear All,
We'd like to invite you to a summer e-learning seminar presented
by Simon Wilkinson of the Medical School's Networked Learning Environment
team. The subject is Zope, the system used by the Medical School
to run the NLE (details below). The seminar is scheduled for Thursday
23rd August 10am - 11am with coffee available afterwards.
The session is intended for staff with existing web-authoring/development
experience who might be interested in the additional benefits Zope
could bring to their work. The aim of the session is to make staff
aware of the potential of Zope to support the development and management
of large web sites. This will include a practical demonstration
of how the Medical School is using Zope to generate its Networked
Learning Environment.
Specific features covered will be:
- Web-based editing system
- Acquisition - similar to server-side includes
- Database integration
- Authentication (Portal applications)
- Products
- Versions
- Multi-level undo system
- Extensibility using Python
The session will close by a look at a recent development in the
Medical School's NLE to use Zope to 'power' two separate web sites
for the desktop and PDAs from one core MySQL database using Zope
for processing functionality.
