Dear All,
The University is planning to acquire a Content Management System (CMS)
for our web sites. The purpose of a CMS is to simplify the process of
publishing to the web, whilst providing tools for the management of web
content.
We are now starting out on the selection process and the first step is
requirements gathering. I have attached a list of draft requirements
(Word file 35Kb) which the selection committee feels are important. We
would very much like to hear your comments on what you feel are the most
important requirements from your school or department's point of view.
I have also attached a JISC Techwatch report on Content Management (in
pdf) as background for those of you who are unsure as to what Content
Management is about.
(Editor's note: you might also like to refer to the notes from the previous forum where Tony Scott introduced the concept of CMS and how it might work at Nottingham).
The Selection Committee comprises of
Chair: Peter Stockwell (English Studies)
Stan Smith (IS)
Tim Longden (Marketing)
Paddy Tighe (Clinical Laboratory Sciences)
Ian Wilson (RSO)
Barbara Vickery (IS)
Tony Scott (IS)
There will be an event at 1pm on 23rd October where your views on the
matter can be made directly (venue to be announced).
In the meantime, please send any comments you may have regarding any
requirements you feel we may have missed and also on the requirements we
have already listed. Send your comments to the Web Editor, Tony Scott.
With best wishes,
Peter
