Nottingham student shines at the World University Shooting Sports Championships
University of Nottingham student William Gilbert travelled to India to represent GB Students at the 2024 FISU World University Shooting Sports Championships. The event took place in New Delhi, India, between the 9t and 13th November - bringing together university athletes from across the globe.

Alongside his GB teammates, 21 year old Nottingham student William Gilbert competed at the 2024 FISU World University Shooting Sports Championships - the last major competition of the year for the team. Taking on teams from around the globe made up of the best university talent in the world, William - a 3rd year Law student at the University of Nottingham - would go on to win a fantastic silver medal in the Trap Team Event.
William performed very well throughout the Trap Team competition, combining with George Eyston from Oxford Brookes University, and Oliver Sampson from the University of Hull to land on the podium. William also took to the Dr Karni Singh Ranges in the Individual event, finishing 9th in individual qualifying.
Reflecting on his experience competing on the world stage in India, William said "I had a really fantastic trip to India - a truly incredible place. Well done to George and Ollie on all of your hard work - it was amazing to win a silver medal with you both. Thank you to the event organisers, British Shooting, BUCS and Katy Poulsom for all of the effort that you put in to make this trip possible. Finally, thank you to the University for accommodating all of the scheduling changes needed for me to go and compete, and for being very understanding."

The GB Students delegation is the representative team for BUCS in association with British Shooting to represent the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. The GB Students delegation competing in India included 10 athletes from 9 different BUCS member universities from across England, Scotland and Wales.
