Wellbeing support
Here you will find all you need to know about the School of Sociology and Social Policy’s welfare support.
Disability Officer
Francesca Clarke is our Centre for Social Work Disability Officer. They will be your first point of call if you require additional learning support.
Personal tutor
In your first week here at Nottingham, you will be allocated a personal tutor. This will be an academic member of staff who gets to know you personally. They will meet with you twice a term, individually and in group settings. You can contact your tutor with any issues that you might need additional support with.

Peer mentoring
The Peer Mentoring Scheme is available to all new undergraduate students.
Our peer mentors are second and third year undergraduates, who have volunteered to help support you throughout your first year in the School of Sociology and Social Policy – whether it's knowing where the best coffee is on campus or providing a safe and confidential space for you to talk freely about your concerns and ask questions.
While you are encouraged to meet with your mentor as often as you'd like, you can expect to meet with your peer mentor at least four times:
- At the beginning of term to talk about getting started
- Midway into term (in October or November) to talk about getting the most out of lectures and seminars
- At the end of term, to talk about preparing for the first round of assessments
- After the release of semester one results in February, to talk about getting the most out of feedback and making any necessary adjustments to studying in semester two
Peer mentors can provide reassurance, guidance and signposting to other services to help you settle in and succeed, through sharing their own knowledge and experience.
You can request a peer mentor using the sign-up form:

My peer mentor really helped me in understanding how to structure university style essays and explained how to reference well which I have found very useful.
