What is time management?

Time management is about understanding ourselves and how we work best. If we feel overwhelmed or have perfectionist tendencies, we often find ourselves procrastinating which can hinder our progress and affect our motivation.

Whatever stage of your degree you’re currently in, managing your time effectively can support motivation and a healthy approach to university life

Finding balance

Finding balance across different areas of life can support motivation, wellness, and a sense of achievement.

Healthy studying involves managing study and non-study time carefully, making sure we build in time to fulfill our basic human needs. This can be anything from scheduling in lunchbreaks, to blocking out time for the gym or an evening with friends.

Often if we meet these human needs first, we are better able to flourish and stretch our brains whilst at university.

Needs and motivation

In this resource, explore the Hierarchy of Needs theory proposed by Abraham Maslow (1943) to identify our different human needs and explore how these interact with each other.

Fulfilling our basic needs first, can help us to flourish and stretch our brains whilst at university.
