Companion animal and equine pathology

We offer full necropsy services for companion animals and horses.

Submitting clinicians receive complete diagnostic reports covering:

  • cause of death
  • gross and histopathology descriptions and diagnoses
  • pathologist comments
  • imaging as appropriate

Case submission

We only accept cases from qualified veterinarians, the RSPCA, or police officers.All communications with owners regarding the case admission, diagnostic reports, ancillary testing, and arrangements for cremation is done through the referring veterinarian. Please contact your vet practice for submission if you are an owner.

Prior to cases being accepted for post-mortem examination, a submission form needs to be completed and emailed to the pathology team at veterinary-pathology@nottingham.ac.uk.

Please note that filling out a submission form does not guarantee that the case will be accepted for necropsy.

Please call ahead to discuss your submission if your case has been under chemotherapeutic treatment within the last 6 weeks.

Our telephones are open for submission requests and queries from 9am - 5pm Monday to Friday. Deliveries of submissions are accepted from 9am - 3pm Monday to Friday, by prior arrangement only.
