Overview

Now that chickens are the fourth most common pet in the UK it's perhaps time to ensure you are backyard poultry ready. This one-day poultry course will be led by two poultry vets with experience in private poultry practice, the pharmaceutical industry and undergraduate/postgraduate teaching. If small flocks of hens are the only food producing animals you see in your companion animal practice you will appreciate this course covering not only endemic poultry diseases seem in backyard flocks, but also how to spot the two Notifiable Diseases of poultry and poultry diseases with public health significance.

Learning objectives

Therapeutics for small poultry flocks can be daunting but this course will delve into the treatment and prevention options available to the clinician. In the practical session performing a clinical examination and a post-mortem examination will be taught. Following on from that, sampling techniques and further laboratory testing appropriate to backyard poultry will be covered.
