Our research community is vast and collaborative. We work closely with the School of Biosciences - located within the Faculty of Science - and our joint Research Excellence Framework submission is ranked second in the UK. The school focuses on four strategic areas of research:
- One Virology
- Translational Infection Biology
- Diagnostics and Therapeutics
- Ruminant Population Health

Our courses
Veterinary Medicine and Science PhD
Specialist study, postgraduate training and original and independent research on a specific topic under the supervision of academic members of staff in the school.
Veterinary Science MRes
The MRes programme aims to enhance your awareness and understanding of the latest veterinary research developments, while providing tailored in-depth training relating to your research interests.
Veterinary Medicine MVM/MVS
These courses provide you with appropriate exposure to clinical case load and scholarly activity, ensuring you are prepared for and meet the assessment criteria for a specialist clinical qualification in your chosen field.
Veterinary Medicine DVetMed/DVetSurg
Comprising of a taught component in year one and one or more major research projects over a minimum of a further two years. These courses will develop your research and clinical excellence, enabling you to transition from clinical practice into research.
