Biography of Granville Charles FitzHerbert Harcourt-Vernon (1891-1974)

Granville was the eldest surviving son of Edward Evelyn Harcourt-Vernon (1853-1932) of Grove Hall. He was educated at Eton.

He served in the First World War as an officer in the Grenadier Guards, and attained the rank of Captain in 1915 and Major in 1919. He was wounded and mentioned in dispatches. He received the Distinguished Service Award in 1916 and the Military Cross in 1919.

He later attained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel. He was a Justice of the Peace for Nottinghamshire.

In 1946 he sold Grove Hall and its contents, along with nearly 4,000 acres of the Grove estate in Grove, Little Gringley and Headon. 

Family

He married in 1925 Céline, daughter of M. Van Hecke of Brussels. They had no children.
