DREAM

DREAM brings together three research teams withing computer science, combining expertise in artificial intelligence, modelling and visualisation:

Please visit the individual teams’s pages for more details.

The mission of DREAM is to bring together the different skillsets across the three teams, and working with disciplines outside computer science in order advance human-centric AI, data analysis and visualization through interdisciplinary research, with a specific focus on:

  • Developing innovative models and techniques for real-world problems in data analysis, with an emphasis on biological, biomedical, and digital economy application domains
  • Creating cutting-edge analysis methodologies that can handle large and/or noisy and datasets, and applying these to challenging and important problems
  • Advancing our understanding of how to capture, model, and reason with uncertain data, and developing new approaches to data visualization and analytics
  • Capturing, exploring, analyzing, and presenting complex data in a way that is intuitive and insightful, using techniques such as information visualization, scientific visualization, and visual analytics
  • Developing human-centered machine learning approaches that leverage the strengths of both humans and AI systems, promoting effective human-AI collaboration and supporting better-informed decision-making.
  • Applying our research to real-world problems, and driving innovation and impact through collaboration with industry, government, and other stakeholders
  • Fostering a culture of interdisciplinary collaboration and knowledge-sharing, and providing training and development opportunities for the next generation of data scientists and researchers.

Our researchers, comprising over 40 Marie Curie Fellows and PhD students, as well as permanent academics and support staff, work together to advance our understanding of complex data. With over £33m in current external research funding, we are well-equipped to tackle challenging problems and develop cutting-edge methodologies. Our expertise spans interdisciplinary and international collaborative research, capture, exploration, analysis, and presentation of large and or uncertain data sets, enabling users to discover new patterns, confirm hypotheses, and communicate insights effectively. By combining our strengths, we drive innovation and deliver impactful research that addresses real-world challenges.
