NCI holds 2024 local teacher training event

Description
Sunday 9 July saw over 30 Mandarin teachers gather at the Si Yuan Centre for its annual training event aimed at enhancing instructional practices and fostering student engagement. The attendees were Mandarin teachers from Nottingham Chinese School, Alderman White School, Rushcliffe School, Confucius institute colleagues from University of Nottingham (UoN) and University of Edinburgh and students on the MA TCSOL programme from Nottingham's School of Education.

Mahjong night at NCI – a great way to learn Mandarin!

On Friday 21 June, Nottingham Confucius Institute (NCI) hosted a Mahjong evening, ending Mandarin Corner for the summer term in style. The event attracted over 40 enthusiastic Nottingham staff, students and local residents.

Spring Camp to China – an 'unforgettable experience'

17 students from across all five UoN faculties and two young professionals studying Mandarin part-time at the Nottingham Confucius institute (NCI) joined our Spring Camp to China programme. The trip was organised by NCI and delivered by our partner Fudan University in Shanghai with support from University of Nottingham Ningbo Campus (UNNC).

NCI Spring Camp off to a flying start

Description
19 students began their NCI Spring Camp to China adventure on Monday 8 April, visiting Shanghai and Beijing in their first week. They immersed themselves in Mandarin lessons and a variety of cultural activities at Fudan University, including Chinese cooking sessions and dragon and lion dancing workshops. They also visited sites of historical interest in both cities, managing to take in the Bund, Yu Garden, Great Wall, Summer Palace and Forbidden City all within their first week!

Spring term Mandarin Corner closes in style

15th March saw nearly 60 people take part in our last Mandarin Corner event of the spring term at the Si Yuan Centre. The theme of the event was "blue and white porcelain".
