NCI students celebrate achievements at end of term showcase party

Description
2022's autumn term Mandarin programme closed in style on Saturday 10th December with a showcase party organised by Nottingham Confucius Institute (NCI). The party was attended by over forty group and private one-to-one students, staff and volunteers.

The evening of Friday 2 December saw over 50 University staff, students and local residents take part in the last Mandarin Corner event of the year at the Si Yuan Centre, home to Nottingham Confucius Institute.

Mandarin Corner - our boardgame theme kicks the term off to a good start!

Description
Friday 4 November saw over 60 Nottingham staff, students and local residents take part in the first Mandarin Corner of the Autumn term at the Si Yuan Centre, home to Nottingham Confucius Institute. This was the first in-person Mandarin Corner event since Covid started nearly three years ago. It was great to see people get together and bond over mahjong, chess and other Chinese board games.

14th "China and Me" Speech Contest

Description
Nine Nottingham students and alumni from across the University demonstrated their Mandarin skills at the 14th "China and Me" Speech Competition on Saturday 12th November at the Si Yuan Centre. After holding the event online for the past two years because of Covid, it was great to welcome contestants back to our premises to showcase their language talent in person in front of a lively audience!

NCI hosts hybrid training event for local teachers

Over 100 Mandarin teachers and student teachers from across the globe registered to attend NCI Local Teacher Training on Sunday 10 July, with 32 of them attending in person at the Si Yuan Building, home to NCI on the University's Jubilee Campus.

Fantastic turnout gets NCI Summer Camp off to an excellent start

Description
Wednesday 6 July saw over 50 University staff, students and local residents join the first day of NCI's Summer Camp at the Si Yuan Building, on the University of Nottingham's Jubilee Campus. This was NCI's first ever Summer Camp as well as its first in-person event since the pandemic began nearly two and half years ago.

Locals learn about China at Family Discovery Day

Description
Saturday 18th June saw over 100 primary school children and their families take part in Family Discovery Day on University Park Campus. The purpose of the event was to give children, especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds, an opportunity to explore university life and encourage them in their aspirations for the future. It was led by the University's Widening Participation Team and supported by several schools and departments across the University including the Nottingham Confucius Institute.

NCI holds public talk "Daoism: Be Like Water"

Description
On 20 May, NCI was proud to hold its first Chinese Philosophy Lecture session of 2022 entitled "Daoism: Be Like Water". The talk was once again given by founder of Embrace China Ltd Mr Manuel Parreno, who studied Chinese Philosophy in China for three years after developing a passion for Daoism.
