Moving and Handling in Emergency Situations
Risk assessment
Risk
assessment is a mandatory component of patient care under the Health &
Safety Executive (2004) regulations. Before beginning any moving and handling
technique, it is vital that a moving and handling assessment for the individual
patient is either performed or checked. All risk assessments must be regularly
up-dated to accommodate any changes and legally the changes must be documented.
In assessing the risk you need to evaluate if you should be undertaking the
moving and handling technique. If you do need to do so, you should assess the task,
the individual, the load and the environment.
