Four principles
Promote professionalism and trust
The student nurses appeared unaware of the distress they caused to Sarah. They were also oblivious to the consequences of using social media irresponsibly. The collection and disclosure of the patient information from the shift is tantamount to gross professional misconduct. The comments made about the ward, the staff and the specific patients reflected a failure to recognise the impact of individual behaviour on the behaviours and responses of others.
As future practitioners, student nurses have a duty to develop as role models, being professional and trustworthy and acting with integrity at all times.
