Initial Teacher Education pre-course information

Useful Information

Unconditional offer

Once your Fitness to Teach and DBS checks are completed satisfactorily and your certificates and qualifications have been verified you will receive an unconditional offer letter. Clearances can take some time so you may not hear from us for a while.

Certificates

GCSE/O Level English Language and Mathematics or equivalent

As required by the Department for Education, we need to see your original certificates. If you do not have your original O-Level/GCSE certificates, you will need to apply for either duplicate certificates or a Final Statement of Results.

Below are details of the appropriate Examining Boards where you can apply to obtain either duplicate certificates or Confirmation of Results.

Please note it can take up to four weeks (depending on workload) for the information requested to be provided, therefore you are advised to apply immediately.

Examining boards

*AQA (Assessment and Qualifications Alliance) was formed by the merger of The Associated Examining Board (AEB)/Southern Examining Group (SEG) and The Northern Examinations and Assessments Board (NEAB). Therefore if you sat your ‘O’ Levels/GCSEs with these Examining Boards, you need to apply to either the Guildford or Manchester offices for duplicate certificates or confirmation of results.

**OCR (Oxford Cambridge and RSA Examinations) was formed in 1998 from the University of Cambridge Local Examinations Syndicate and RSA.

Living beyond a 10-mile radius

You are required to live in the East Midlands region. If you wish to live beyond a 10-mile radius from the University you need to request permission to do so. This request should be made by completing the personal/travel information form, which you can find on the School Placements page.

You will need to consider that additional travelling is required during teaching practice, particularly if a placement in a partnership school near to where you live cannot be found. Therefore living outside the 10-mile limit may cause you further difficulties with respect to cost and living accommodation at this time.

Parking on campus

Parking on Jubilee Campus for students is strictly limited to those whose term-time address is outside a radius of 15 miles of the University. The amount charged for a permit will be based upon vehicle emissions. Further information about costs for parking permits and how to apply can be found on the University of Nottingham Estates Office website.

You need to be a fully registered student in order to apply for a parking permit. As the second part of registration is completed at Induction, you will therefore be unable to apply for a permit until after Induction. This means that you will not be able to park on campus until you have received your parking permit.

Please note: security officers do make regular checks and will fine students who do not display the appropriate permit.

Accommodation

Many of the student teachers on the PGCE course live in privately rented accommodation in the areas local to the University. Some of this is University approved. There is also some accommodation available for PGCE students to rent on or near the campus. You should go to the University of Nottingham’s Accommodation Services website for further information on applying for postgraduate accommodation. Please use the additional notes field to state that you will require your accommodation from an earlier date (state course start date).

Applications for accommodation for courses starting in September 2020 will be processed from March onwards. Please be aware that parking is not always available at halls of residences and other university approved accommodation.
