Biography

Georgina Nakafero is a Research Fellow at the University of Nottingham. She obtained a BSc in Nursing from Mbarara University of Science and Technology, Uganda in 2006. Following two years of work as a Research Assistant and one year as a Study Coordinator in HIV research, she won a Commonwealth Scholarship to pursue Masters' degree in Public Health from the University of Nottingham, UK, which she completed with a distinction December 2010. October 2011, she was awarded the University of Nottingham Vice-Chancellor's Scholarship for Research Excellence to purse a PhD in Epidemiology and Public Health. After completing the PhD, she took up a Research Fellow position at Anglia Ruskin for a year. She returned to the University of Nottingham and joined Academic Rheumatology February 2017.

Georgina Nakafero' s research focus is pharmaco-epidemiology. Currently the adverse events of immune suppressive drugs in inflammatory conditions. Previously she worked on the analgesic potential of beta-blockers in osteoarthritis; vaccine uptake, effectiveness, and safety in inflammatory conditions; commonly prescribed drugs such as benzodiazepines and their effects on respiratory disease outcome, barriers to diabetes education and treatment, and literacy and anti-HIV treatment adherence.
