Biography

From January 2023 I have been Emeritus Professor at the University of Nottingham, having retired as Professor of Medicine of Older People (since 2005) and honorary consultant in Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust (since 1994) and a career in the University since 1988.

As a clinician (geriatrician), I worked in the care of people with stroke, in rehabilitation settings, in the community and in acute frailty care. As an academic I have been a researcher and teacher in clinical geriatric medicine. My research interests have been wide and span the translational clinical research pathway and a wide range of research methodologies. I have led a NIHR PGfAR Programme Grant, and themes in National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Collaboration for Leadership in Applied Health Research and Care (CLAHRC), Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and Lincolnshire, and NIHR CLAHRC East Midlands, East Midlands Academic Health Sciences Network, and NIHR Nottingham Biomedical Research Centre.
