Glasgow Coma Scale (2)
Please watch this video of Louise explaining the importance of the GCS in clinical practice.
" As a practitioner working in an environment that accepts patients from a very wide area, the GCS allows a clearer picture of a patient's condition prior to transfer. For example, if we are informed a patient has a GCS of 15 out of 15 we would not necessarily need to arrange an emergency transfer. However, if a patient had a GCS of 8 out of 15 we would need an anaesthetist to review the patient prior to an emergency transfer. In this case, we would also have a surgeon waiting to accept the patient on arrival to potentially take them straight to theatre and make other necessary preparation. "
