The Nanoscale & Microscale Research Centre (nmRC) is delighted to announce three funded summer research projects are now available to current University of Nottingham Undergraduates. These six to eight week studentships will run between July and September 2024 and are open to UoN Undergraduates (from any subject or discipline) interested in developing a career in research and keen for experience in a world leading analytical facility. This opportunity is open to second or third (IF moving into a fourth / Masters year) year students. Final year students will unfortunately not be eligible due to the end of their student status over the Summer.
The nmRC is a University of Nottingham core facility for the characterisation of materials systems. We carry out work in support of huge breadth of different research fields. More information can be found on our website: www.nottingham.ac.uk/nmrc
As a paid (bursary) opportunity these projects are an excellent way to get hands-on experience in an acclaimed research environment and view, experience and contribute to University research and knowledge exchange activities. Guided learning will be blended with general and technically specific training in laboratory practice and science communication to enable placement students to work on some of the diverse array of research concepts the Centre helps support.
The projects available this Summer are:
1. “Surf’s Up”: Communicating surface science to external audiences
2. “SpectROCKScopy”: Studying rock compositions using electron microscopy in-situ techniques
3. “Vegi-tales” : An investigation of structural changes in frozen or wilted vegetables using correlative imaging techniques
For more specific information on the projects, application criteria and on how to apply please see the attached document here.
Please note that the application window closes on Monday 10th June.
