Implementation

To implement the guideline:

1. Read the recommendations to check whether there will be problems to overcome locally

2. Print off the algorithm and ensure all wards have a copy (Word version to edit as required)

3. Educate the staff in how to use the guideline by using a lunch-time meeting / induction training

         A presentation has been developed for this purpose (requires Powerpoint 2003)

4. Consider using the care pathway as part of your admission documentation

5. Audit the implementation of the recommendations (using SHOs/SpRs)

6. Use the patient information leaflets to aid discussions:
