AMRG Researcher Day March 2019
The Day
The Advanced Materials Research Group (AMRG) held their annual Researcher Day on Wednesday 6th March 2019. The day is a great opportunity for our PhD students to gain some valuable experience in presenting their research, receiving feedback and networking with students and members of staff.
The presentations were judged by the groups academic and post-doctoral research staff members and I know they found this task very difficult owing to the high quality of work produced. The top 3 in each year group competition received a gift voucher and the top 2 will go on to represent AMRG in the Faculty wide Engineering Researcher Showcase in May!
A massive congratulations to everyone who participated in the day as it was clear they all made a huge effort in preparing their presentations and they made the day a big success!
The Winners
The first year PhD students participated in the 'Pitch Perfect' competition. This was a quick-fire presentation where they had one minute and one slide with no animation to showcase their research. We had 11 contestants in this round all promoting a diverse range or research.
In first and second place respectively, and going on to represent AMRG in the Faculty of Engineering Researcher Competition in May was Claire Stringer and Shoaib Shah (pictured left).
The second year PhD students participated in the 'Poster Competition'. This was a 2 minute presentation of their research as depicted on a research poster with a question and answer section at the end. We had 8 contestants in this round and an interesting variety of research and questions.
The judges found it difficult to distinguish between the top 3 in this round so awarded them all equal first place. The winners are Ieuan Thomas-Hillman, Yu Yu and Daniel Tejero Martin (picture from left to right).
The final year PhD students participated in the '3MT' competition. This was a 3 minute presentation of their research where they were able to use one slide with no animation. We had 12 contestants in this round all promoting a compelling range or research.
The top 3 entries in this competition, and going on to represent AMRG in the Faculty of Engineering Researcher Competition in May were Halar Memon, Kathryn Thomas and Joseph Perkins (pictured left to right).
