In collaboration with the University of Leicester, the CSVA is delighted to announce the return of the Midlands Viking Symposium. This one-day Symposium is an opportunity to share the latest Viking research with the public and other colleagues in the Midlands. This year we are delighted to be welcoming guest speaker Prof. Clare Downham from the University of Liverpool, current President of the Viking Society for Northern Research. The programme also features contributions from the University of Leicester’s ERC-funded BODY-POLITICS project, headed by Dr Marianne Hem Eriksen, papers by PhD students at the University of Nottingham and a creative writing workshop led by Dr James Aitcheson. Come along to browse stalls from the English Place-Name Society, Brepols, Bookwise and BlueAxe Reproductions and hear the latest in Viking research.
The Centre for the Study of the Viking Age places great importance on communicating its expertise in the subject to teachers, museum and heritage professionals, the media, and the interested general public.
The Midlands Viking Symposium seeks to encourage greater public engagement with the research of the CSVA and to enhance collaboration with the universities of Birmingham and Leicester. It usually takes place on the last Saturday of April.
