Co-run by postgraduate students in the Schools of English and Geography, the LSP Reading Group aims to generate interdisciplinary discussion by considering the ways in which both academics and non-academics have approached landscape, space, and place.
Our monthly sessions cover a range of diverse topics and are led by a postgraduate student or staff member from various disciplines across the university, each of whom works on a related area of research.
In each session we take a key theorist, relevant text or creative practice in order to shake up and re-examine some of our assumptions relating to landscape, space, or place, or to simply explore some of the knotty issues many of us have been dealing with in our own research. One week we might grapple with some theory, alongside a map or an excerpt from a novel; another we may contemplate a painting, a poem, or even a building.
Readings are made available in PDF format to everyone on the mailing list in advance of each session.
We aim to make these sessions welcoming and informal, so do come along and join in our discussions!
Sessions usually take place on the last Thursday of every month during term time at 4pm in A35, Trent Building.

The LSP Reading Group is dedicated to providing an opportunity for both staff and postgraduate students to present related work at any stage of their research within a friendly, supportive and stimulating environment. Besides our monthly sessions, we run an annual Postgraduate Workshop, which attracts student speakers from all over Britain and Ireland. These workshops are open to all postgraduate students and staff who are interested in landscape, space and place.
