Site design
Content for your site

To change the information that you provide regularly, you don't necessarily have to be ediitng web pages all the time. There are various mechanisms to help you include content in your pages that is maintained elsewhere. The University is currently investigating Content Management Systems (CMS) which can help in maintaining a web site by separating the content from teh web pages design, thereby making updating pages a more technically straightforward task. Contact the web team for more details of this project.

You can also take advantage of the many free web-based services that provide you with regularly changing content for your site. This is usually news items, or articles on your area of interest, or it might be some thought for the day or hints and tips of relevance. You copy some code from the site and paste it into your web pages, and that's it.

Find out more about managing page content efficiently with our on-line guide. A new S&EDU seminar introducing the role of scripting languages in web sites will cover the basic concepts behind Content Management Systems.
