An opportunity for you to chat to a current English student, get your questions answered and help you settle into life at the university.

Peer mentoring

Who are the mentors?

The mentors are all fully-trained current students studying one of the courses we offer in English. The scheme is open to undergraduate students only.

New undergraduates are matched with current second or third year students.

How does it work?

You are matched with a mentor who shares similar interests and course of study to you. Your peer mentor will keep in contact with you throughout the year and is there to offer support and share their knowledge. They will help with answering questions before you arrive and help get you settled into your course and are there to answer questions you have about studying at the university.

The deadline to apply if you would like a peer mentor before you start your course is Monday 9 September. We aim to match you with your peer mentor by the start of term so keep an eye on your emails and junk mail to find out if you've been matched.

You can also sign up during Welcome Week if you prefer.

If you have any questions about the peer mentoring scheme please email AE-EnglishESE@exmail.nottingham.ac.uk

There are some issues that fall in between what your friends can help you with and what you want to ask a lecturer you have never met before, and the mentoring scheme fills those gaps wonderfully. Thanks to my mentor, on my third day at Nottingham, I already knew everything there was to know about the library, the online portal and how to make the most of my seminars. My mentor is a wonderful person; they have made the difference between my first weeks at Nottingham being unproductive and achieving a good balance of social and academic life.
