Connect with fellow new students before you arrive in Nottingham. This is a great chance to make some friends and share some tips and advice over the summer.

Follow us on Facebook, X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram

The School of Mathematical Sciences has official Facebook, X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram accounts you can follow.  Click to join!  Many students also set up their own Facebook groups, so look out for links to these.

Math Soc

Additionally the Mathematics Society, entitled MathSoc, can be followed on Instagram. Throughout the year MathSoc will run fun social events. You will hear more from them during welcome week!

The study buddy scheme

The School of Mathematical Sciences is proud to run a highly successful study buddy scheme for both undergraduate and postgraduate taught students on any course.  You will be put into groups of usually two or three students. You will be matched based on your personal studying preferences, and you will have the opportunity to meet new people on the same course as you. Look out for an email about the study buddy scheme shortly after Welcome Week activities, where you will be able to sign up to take part.

“I have loved having a study buddy as personally it has held me a lot more accountable for the work that I'm doing, as before I found it very easy to get behind with the promise to myself that I'd catch up. It is also just nice to talk to someone about maths”. - Study buddy scheme participant

Peer mentoring for postgraduate taught students

Peer mentoring is a great way to find out more about the university and the school itself, and to meet new people. Your mentor can help get you settled in and provide you with advice and support throughout term time. Look out for the introduction of the peer mentoring scheme during the first few weeks of term, where you will be able to sign up to this scheme if you would like to have a mentor or become a mentor yourself.
