Dr Michelle Haslem
Michelle joined Council in 2023. She has more than 20 years experience in the Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office, currently as a Director General, and has spent half her career overseas on postings in Asia, the Middle East and Europe. She is known for her collaborative approach to solving complex problems across departmental boundaries. She has specific expertise in managing national security risks, and in leading crisis response including to terrorist incidents. She is a passionate advocate for EDI, and is actively engaged in initiatives to ensure that the FCDO is more representative of the country we serve.
She is an alumnus of Nottingham (English, 1995), and has a PhD in English Literature from the University of Liverpool.
