Professor Sam Kingman

 

Professor Sam Kingman FREng is the Interim Provost and Deputy Vice-Chancellor of the University of Nottingham, taking up the role on 1 November 2024.

Sam has previously been the Pro-Vice-Chancellor for the Faculty of Engineering. The main focus of Professor Kingman's research is microwave processing of materials. This work has focused upon developing a fundamental understanding of the interaction of microwave energy with materials and how such data underpins scale up of microwave processes to industrial scale. Professor Kingman has produced over 200 refereed journal papers and he is an inventor on 29 patent families with over 180 individual patents.

The quality of Professor Kingman's work has been recognised through a number of individual medals, including the  Beilby Medal and Prize for "work of exceptional practical significance in chemical engineering, applied materials science, energy efficiency or a related field", awarded by RSC, IOM3 and SCI and the Futers Gold Medal by the Institution of Materials, Minerals and Mining for outstanding services to the International Minerals Industry. Professor Kingman is also a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering.
