David King awarded prize for research excellence

Description
The School of Chemistry congratulates David King, a PhD student in the research group of Steve Liddle, who has been awarded a prestigious Dean Moore Scholarship by the University of Nottingham. This postgraduate prize award recognises David's research on uranium-nitride triple bonds in order to better understand the chemical bonding and reactivity of uranium.

Dr Sihai Yang awarded prize for research excellence

Description
The School of Chemistry congratulates Dr Sihai Yang, Leverhulme Early Career Fellow, who has been awarded the prestigious B T M Willis Prize for 2013 by the Institute of Physics and the Royal Society of Chemistry Neutron Scattering Group. The award recognises Dr Yang's outstanding research in the application of neutron scattering science to understand gas storage and separation properties of porous materials.

Description
Dr. Graham Rance and Dr. Tom Chamberlain have been announced winners of the Nottingham Nanoscience & Nanotechnology Centre postdoctoral competition, 2013. Their joint proposal, titled "Exploring the complementarity of microscopy and spectroscopy for controlled transformations of carbon at the nanoscale", was awarded £1000 worth of instrument time in the NNNC.

Pioneering chemists are taking part in the biggest-ever European research programme

Description
Pioneering chemists from The University of Nottingham are taking part in the biggest-ever European research programme to speed up the discovery of new drugs. The scientists will be working with leading drug discovery services partner, Sygnature Discovery in BioCity Nottingham, as part of a new European Lead Factory – a huge innovative collaboration between several of Europe's largest pharmaceutical companies, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and academic researchers. The project will bring €6.2m from the European project into the City of Nottingham.

From the Teaching Lab to the Triathlon World Championships

Description
Undergraduate Teaching Laboratory Manager Dr Anna Bertram travelled to Auckland in October 2012 as part of the Great Britain Age Group Team to compete in the International Triathlon Union World Championships. In this truly international field were athletes from New Zealand, USA, Australia, Great Britain, Mexico, Ireland, Brazil, South Africa and many other up and coming triathlon nations.
