David was based in Port Stanley from 1973 to 1974 as Captain of the 35 Royal Marine Commandos who constituted the defence force for the Islands, South Georgia, and the South Shetlands, supported only by occasional visits in the summer season by HMS Endurance, a lightly armed Antarctic patrol vessel. More recently, he has followed closely the initiatives of Geoffrey Cardozo, nominated for the 2021 Nobel Peace Prize along with Julio Aro, the Argentine war veteran, in their joint efforts regarding the DNA identification of remains in the Darwin Cemetery.

Stephen holds the Chair of Modern Spanish Literature and Intellectual History at the University of Nottingham and is a founder member of the Centre for the Study of Memory and Post-Conflict. Lorca was born on 5 June 1898 and was executed on 19 August 1936 by nationalist forces in Franco’s Spain early in the Spanish Civil War. He was a poet, playwright, theatre director and gay. His body has never been found.

Luis Fondebrider, President of the Equipo Argentino de Arqueología Forense [Argentine Forensic Archaeology Team] has kindly agreed to join the discussion via zoom. Luis, in 1984, founded and was made president of the Equipo Argentino de Arqueología Forense (EAAF – Argentine Forensic Archaeology Team), a pioneering group in the applications of forensic science in recovering and identifying the remains of the victims of violence during the military dictatorship in Argentina. He has sat on international tribunals in inquiries into cases of political violence in some forty countries of South America, Asia, Africa, Europe, and the Middle East.
