Identifying infants at greater risk of overweight
6. More risk factors for becoming an overweight child
Along with rapid weight gain and high birth weight which have been discussed in the previous sections the following factors also increase the risk of child overweight:
1. Infants whose mothers smoked during pregnancy, 2. Infants whose mothers were obese prior to pregnancy, 3. Infants whose fathers are obese, 4. Infants who are not breastfed in the first year of life.
In the next section we will see how combining all these factors into a checklist provides us with an overall risk for a infant becoming overweight using an algorithm called the IROC tool.
