2. Going to hospital
Inpatient admission can be a stressful and painful experience. Inpatient hospitalisation is always a time of great fragility, stress and concern to patients, especially in relation to loss of autonomy and privacy. Any situation which involves hospitalisation often provokes feelings of anxiety due to the withdrawal of support systems, family environment and the changes imposed by the individuals own health situation.
Consider being in a foreign country with a completely different culture to your own and for medical reasons you are going to be admitted to the hospital.
It is the responsibility of health professionals, especially nurses, to help minimise the impact of hospitalisation by establishing a positive relationship between the caregiver, the patient and the family.
