Exploring Childhood Vaccine Hesitancy: A Resource for Healthcare Professionals
1. Introduction
Who is this resource for?
This reusable learning object (RLO) is for any healthcare professional or healthcare students with experience of, or interest in childhood vaccination and the discussions around childhood vaccination.
How does it work?
In this resource we will look at three examples of vaccine hesitancy. You will be invited to assume the role of various healthcare professionals in these scenarios, but please respond or reflect using your own professional or educational experiences.
Your responses and reflections from each task will be downloadable when you complete the RLO. These are for your own use. For example, you could use this as part of your own CPD, in discussions with colleagues, or to reflect on your own career journey over time.
You will also be asked to give feedback on the RLO, and your confidence in dealing with this topic. We will use this data to evaluate the RLO, and in research activities including publications. We will not ask for your name.
The scenarios and learning material within this resource are based upon findings from the VAX-TRUST project, funded by the EU, and on wider social scientific research into vaccine hesitancy.Further resources and links are provided at the end of the RLO.
What will I learn?
The aims of this resource are to provide an opportunity to:
- reflect on your expectations of vaccine hesitancy in parents.
- think through the wide range of factors or contexts that influence vaccine hesitancy.
- potentially promote better conversations with vaccine hesitant parents.
This resource is not about communication training: It is not designed to tell you what to say or do.
