6. Risk factors
Sarcomas can develop in individuals of any age and often arise without identifiable risk factors. However, certain risk factors have been identified, including:
- Previous radiotherapy (RT)
- Genetic conditions, such as:
- Neurofibromatosis
- Li Fraumeni syndrome
- Retinoblastoma
- Weakened immune system due to conditions like HIV, certain cancers, lupus, or psoriasis
- Chronic lymphoedema
