The University of Nottingham's political collections largely arise from the papers created or collected by the landowning families of Nottinghamshire, who participated in government and administration until the 20th century thanks to their high status. There are many overlaps with papers in the Family and Estate Collections.
Smaller manuscript collections include the records of the Forest Town Branch Labour Party, and the Long Eaton Conservative Club. Printed material includes the French Revolution Collection of contemporary records of the revolutionary years, and the British Military Government (Berlin) Newspaper Cuttings Archive, 1946-1981. The University also holds collections of political cartoons.
