The village population
A mass of evidence survives concerning the people living in Laxton at various times. Mark Pierce's 1635 survey is the earliest detailed list of landholders in the manor of Laxton, and enables us to plot exactly where they lived and worked.
Later estate surveys in the Manvers collection (see Theme 1) can be used by researchers to see continuities and changes in 1736, 1789, 1820 and 1862.
However, estate surveys are not the only resources which highlight individual people in Laxton. These web pages allow you to explore some of the other documents which name people living in Laxton or provide evidence about their wealth, status and behaviour. They include background information and full-size images of documents and maps.
