Possessions
Documents such as inventories are a fascinating insight into the goods and possessions owned by people in the past. Some inventories were drawn up at the time of probate, and are found with wills. Most surviving wills of people from Laxton are now held at Nottinghamshire Archives.
A few documents listing personal possessions can be found in the Manvers Collection. Document 11 is a printed notice of sale of household furniture and farming stock sold on the premises of Mr Joseph Rose in 1849, and Document 12 is an inventory of Richard Reynolds' goods, dated 1805.
Document 13, a valuation of 'tenant right' on Thomas Motley's farm in 1879, gives researchers an idea of what work he was doing there just before he gave up the holding.
