The British Journal of General Practice (BJGP) website has an abstract of a paper detailing research into optimising stroke prevention in atrial fibrillation (AF) patients that has utilised the GRASP-AF audit tool.
The paper 'Optimising stroke prevention in patients with atrial fibrillation: application of the GRASP-AF audit tool in a UK general practice cohort' was published on 1st Jan 2015.
The online abstract can be found on the BJGP website here.
The study by The University of Birmingham Centre for Cardiovascular Sciences involved 105,000 patients across 11 general practices in Darlington and used the GRASP-AF audit tool to risk stratify patients, identify antithrombotic therapy received and determine predictors of stroke and death in a UK general practice cohort. The study included patients with AF identified using the GRASP-AF audit tool. Stroke risk was determined by CHADS2 and CHA2DS2VASc scores.

GRASP-AF is part of the GRASP suite of tools developed by PRIMIS in partnership with NHS Improving Quality.
GRASP-AF is a free, easy-to-use tool that assists GP practices to interrogate their clinical data enabling them to improve the management and care of patients with AF and to reduce their risk of stroke through appropriate intervention with anticoagulation. The tool also assists with casefinding activity, helping practices to establish more accurate prevalence rates within the practice population.
Find out more information about the GRASP-AF tool and how to obtain it on the GRASP-AF page.
