PRIMIS is pleased to announce the launch of a stand-alone Dementia Case Finder audit tool in time to meet the increase in available QOF points for managing dementia for 2015/16.
This audit tool is designed to help identify patients who have dementia but do not have a recorded diagnosis (as highlighted by the Read codes in the QOF specification), thereby improving the accuracy of the practice register for dementia.
The number of points available within the QOF for managing dementia is being increased from 20 to 50 (out of the total available 559) for 2015/16. This increase has occurred after the General Practitioners Committee and NHS Employers agreed to ‘retire’ certain CKD and coronary heart disease indicators.
The audit tool does not search for patients who might be at risk of going on to develop dementia, based on other medical circumstances: it identifies patients who are either currently on dementia-specific medication or have Read codes used in the specific management of dementia including diagnostic terms outside of QOF. It does not currently look for diagnoses associated with neurological diseases of childhood that can be associated with dementia-like syndromes.
Please see the Dementia Case Finder audit tool webpage.
