Description

The Advanced Materials Research Group (AMRG) would like to welcome you to attend the following seminar:

R&D Of Icephobic Polymer Nanocomposites

By Halar Memon

Abstract:

PhD research project focuses on R&D of surface engineering and advanced coating techniques to create icephobic surface which would minimises the ice accumulation and lower the ice adhesion strength on specific substrates. The interaction and interfacial slippage mechanism between ice and the studied coating surface (mismatch in strain stress on polymeric coatings) will be investigated, as well as the influences from material composition, processing, and surface topography. The work mainly includes surface treatment, material preparation, coating processing, microstructural characterization, coating durability evaluation, icing and ice adhesion test, etc. Research was mainly conducted on polymer nanocomposite coatings in which the matrix materials were based on polyurethane and polydimethylsiloxane. Enhancement of mechanical properties of polymeric coatings were also carried out, without compromising the icephobicity.
