Dr Pearl Agyakwa joined Council in August 2021 as a Senate member. She is a senior research fellow within the Power Electronics, Machines and Control research group. She has a BEng in materials science from Brunel and a PhD in metallurgy from Nottingham. In 2004, she coordinated commercialisation efforts for a novel additive manufacturing process developed at Rolls-Royce. She joined the Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre with Boeing in 2005, where she managed applied research projects for industry partners within the aerospace sector around machining and metrology strategies for complex component geometries.
Pearl is an enthusiastic experimental scientist, and since 2007, has been developing expertise in exploring, mapping and quantifying microstructural damage in power electronics components. She currently provides academic direction in a knowledge transfer partnership with Littelfuse Group.
She is actively engaged in EDI efforts within the university and serves as a BAME staff network champion for the Faculty of Engineering. She collaborates with the Maternal Health & Wellbeing research group and is helping to develop strategies to make public involvement in maternal health research more inclusive.
