Tarmac house
What are we building and why?
Tarmac are to build a pair of 3 bed, 5 person semi-detached
homes that meets the minimum requirements of the Code for
Sustainable Homes Level 4 and 6 incorporating, where possible,
masonry materials and existing industry best practice.
Tarmac House Progress last week of April 2009
We hope to allay the popular myth that sustainable homes can only
be built in timber frame and demonstrate that masonry constructed
homes can meet code level requirements.
Tarmac’s challenge
To build an energy efficient masonry home that can be mass
produced, is visually appealing to the majority of potential
home owners and that is affordable to buy and maintain.
Traditional masonry construction can provide technical solutions
to meet all levels of the Code.
Benefits of a masonry construction
- The
thermal mass associated with masonry homes will help counteract
summer overheating
- Utilises
traditional risk free build techniques and skills
- Fire
resistant
- Security
- Locally
sourced materials
- History
of long in-service life
