Biographical details

She was born in mid-18th century Mexico, the Countess of Regla, Marquesa of Villahermosa de Alfara and Countess of San Bartolomé de Xala.
An aristocratic woman of viceroyal society, she wrote letters during 1812 to 1816 that reveal her impressions of independence, and her harsh attitude towards employees. (Knaster, 477)

She was married to Pedro Ramón Romero de Terreros, the 2nd Count of Regla and widowed in 1809. Her son, the 3rd Count invested in the mines of Real del Monte and they had many haciendas in Mexico State, Hidalgo, Querétaro, Guanajuato, Jalisco, Colima, Michoacán and Zacatecas. She wrote letters to her brother and to her friend, María Inés de Jáuregui, the wife of viceroy José de Iturrigaray. Her letters, and some of the replies she received, were reproduced in 1952 (see texts). (Romero de Terreros, 456-467)
