School of Life Sciences Imaging

School of Life Sciences Imaging (SLIM) provides cutting-edge imaging facilities to researchers across the University, as well as external collaborators.

SLIM encompasses 3 units, all under one consistent structure; the Advanced Microscopy Unit (AMU), Cell Signalling Imaging (CSI) and Super Resolution Microscopy (SRM).

Resources

SLIM provides access to state of the art microscopy comprising: 8 wide-field fluorescence (including edge detection and myography); 3 light microscopes; 2 TIRF microscopes; one two-photon microscope; 7 confocal microscopes (including 3 FCS) and one super resolution system. We also have equipment for high throughput/content screening; electron microscopy (2 TEMs, one SEM); a fully-equipped lab for histology and embedding/sectioning as well as a image analysis suite with workstations running Volocity, Huygens and ImageJ/Fiji. For University staff, detailed information regarding some of our microscopes can be found on Workspace.

Resources may be reserved via a web based booking system

Expertise

The resources in SLIM are supported by an experienced 6-person team with a combined 100+ years expertise in microscopy, image-analysis and sample-preparation

Seminars

SLIM runs a range of events given by both the SLIM team and selected external speakers.

Our regular lunchtime seminar series consist of short talks designed to communicate key microscopy concepts and practical advice. Slides from these can be found on Workspace.

We also run regular imaging workshops and lecture days. Slides from these are also available on Workspace.
